Map of the Four Lands

Map of the Four Lands

There was a legend in the north, that of an evil with many names, names seldom spoken... Within the Kingdoms of Tierinor, and Marindor, and Alasdain, it was the Shadow and the Wyrm, the Foul Pretender and the Dark Beguiler. It is thought that the Sharal would not have strayed if not for the tongue of this wicked creature, or that the Allarie would not have fallen, or that the Groll would never have been fashioned. But none can know the truth of these tales, and the legends have passed into stories mostly forgotten.
Ruegette had never known a time when Gorginor was not in Shadow, or when there were no Groll upon the lands, or when warfare and strife did not steal the lives and hopes of her people. For her, the lands have always been at war, and Tierinor has always been alone in keeping the vigil and preventing the Groll from spreading beyond their barren home to the lands of the Morkind and the west.
The Four Lands--in her world, this is the name given to Dark Gorginor and the three kingdoms that buttress against it. Kingdoms that should have been allied, and standing fast against the Groll, but history records a different outcome: the failing of one, the shading of another, and the steadfastness of only the third. Alasdain yielded the Southern Passes to the armies of the dark, and retreated form the plains before the forces of Gorginor long ago. Marindor, cut off from her allies, chose a different path, she guards her frontiers, but has given up the effort to control. And of them all, only Tierinor, mightiest of the three, continues to fight against the dark. Choosing not to fail where old allies surrendered, Tierinor patrols the waters of the Sea of Floes, keeping the Groll bound to the land, and defends the Southern Passes in the stead of those who have fallen away.
As the last defender against the forces of Dark Gorginor, Tierinor has become the last hope and greatest foe against the Groll. But as time whittles on, the forces of Gorginor grow strong, and more becomes lost. And as the Southern Passes drift more into Groll hands, and as the strength of Tierinor fades, even she struggles to hold fast against the hordes. Now known only as 'The Wastes', Ruegette is one of the few who knows its paths and hidden places. One of the few who carries the title of Wardai, and one of the few who can stop their plans -- One of the last true guardians of the Four Lands.
